Tripoli, 25 December:

Over 200 people turned up to see the Startupweekend Tripoli final at the Corinthia hotel Tripoli, last . . .[restrict]Sunday 23 December.

Thirty-six teams had paid LD 60 each and had presented their ideas at the start of the 3 day process last Friday which by Sunday evening had been whittled down to 12 finalists.

The final 12 teams had to present their ideas in 5 minutes live to the 6 judges made up of top Libyan businessmen and executives and in front of the live audience.

Team one presented their idea of a smart ‘‘When and Wain’’ event app which based upon your input would send you information about events either via SMS, email, or Facebook message and will select the right event for the right audience.

‘’Startme.ly’’ which is a platform to unite those with business ideas with potential investors was team two’s idea. ‘’The Hungry’’, a website and app where you can find all your favourite food outlets with full menu listings and prices was team three’s idea.

Team four ‘’Afiatech’’ was an initial medical diagnoses system to help you diagnose your ailments until you get to see a doctor. A double glazing system that allowed you to change the colour of your glass depending on your mood was the presentation by team five..

‘’1-Market’’ by team six was a website and web application database of suppliers in the Libyan market. Team seven presented ‘’nadumly’’ which means organize for me,  and it was an online system to help you organize things better.

‘’Fattish.com’’ by team eight means ‘’search’’, and was a search engine for Libyan companies and services. ‘’pharmacyonline’’ which as the name suggests was an online tool that helps locate the right pharmacy with the right medicine by team nine.

‘’dg.ly’’ by team ten was a digital signature application. Team eleven’s ‘’my idea’’ was a site for ideas where investors can find and buy bright ideas. And finally team twelve presented their ‘’TEGS’’ or Tripoli Electronic Guide Service, which was an information portal for various services.

After all 12 teams had presented their ideas, the judges left the room to deliberate, before returning with the final verdict.

Fattish was declared first, When and Wain was second, 1-Market was third and Nadumly was fourth.

The teams won various training courses from the sponsors of the event.

Meanwhile, the head of the Misrata based Libyan Businessmen Council invited When and Wain, Start.me and Nadumly to re-present their ideas before a meeting of businessmen in the hope that they will attract either finance or investors. [/restrict]
